"Books Fall Open, You Fall In"
I rated this book 4 out of 5 stars
I received this book as part of a Goodreads First Reads giveaway in exchange for an honest review.
In this middle grade animal fantasy chapter book, Kimba and Hiro are two kittens who are left alone with no one to care for them. Near death, they are found by a loving family that takes them into their home and cares for them. Pampered and care-free, the kittens are getting bigger and stronger. One day they are contacted through the bathroom mirror by Regalus, an important looking cat, who tells them that they are to partake in a secret mission as part of their duty as a cat. Kimba is excited and has been longing for a taste of freedom….but is it worth sacrificing what has become her family?
So, I love to read and I love cats. I entered this giveaway purely with that in mind. It did not fail me. This is a cute and endearing tale of two tiny kittens being rescued, introduced to other fur members of the family, and growing up in their first year. Told strictly from a cats point of view, Kimba starts struggling with her loyalties to both cats and humans. Regalus, a cat who is part of a secret society bent on world domination, tries to convince her that a cat needs its freedom which causes her to have to make some tough decisions.
Anyone who has a cat will especially be able to relate to this book. The behavior of Kimba while she attempts to fulfill her assignments cracked me up. We’ve all seen our cats do these things. The personalities of all the four legged family members was realistic and made me think of my own fur family and their interactions with each other. I loved that there were actual photos of Kimba and Hiro included throughout the book too. It almost made me forget it’s fiction. I would definitely recommend this book for children, adults, cat lovers, or just anyone who likes to read about cats.
