I rated this book 3 1/2 out of 5 stars

I won this book as part of a Goodreads First Reads giveaway.

Holly Gold is a journalist who thought she would make it big. Instead she came back home a failure, writing feel good pieces for a local newspaper. When the son of an old friend brutally murders his parents and then commits suicide, Holly feels something is off. As she starts to investigate, she discovers that he isn’t the only teen who’s acted violently and committed suicide and there seems to be a connection. A new drug that the medical community is raving about. Can she expose the secret before she is silenced….possibly for good?

I usually don’t read medical mysteries but this one sounded interesting and it didn’t disappoint. The characters were well developed, the plot was intriguing, and the writing was excellent. The only criticism I have is that there were times when it was a bit long winded. Holly was great as our protagonist. She’s not what I would call a strong woman. At least not at first. As a matter of fact, I didn’t care for her at all in the beginning. As time went on, she faced her demons and became a more likable, strong character. There were some things about the story that I saw coming, but it didn’t take away from the overall plot, which was not as far fetched as we’d like to believe. I found the tale engrossing, and aside from the moments here and there where it dragged a bit, could not put the book down. If you like medical mysteries, check this one out.

I’ve read two of her books and enjoyed them, even though both of them were long-winded in parts, as you, too, commented. My other pet peeve is that I didn’t learn too much reading them, and that the mystery and plot complications were very transparent in both. Have you read Alan Russell? I’ve read several of his books and he’s amazing.

Sorry! I just got the notification that I had a message! I’ve been so busy at work I haven’t had time to read or post on here. Anyway, I haven’t read any of her other books but am not sure I would after this one. Are they also medical mysteries?
I have not read any by Alan Russell but I will definitely check him out! Thanks!
