Once Upon A Book – Charlee Rae's Book Reviews

"Books Fall Open, You Fall In"

We Were Mothers by Katie Sise

I rated this book 3 out of 5 stars

It all starts off with a birthday party for Cora and Sam O’Connell’s twins. The adults are mingling while secrets sit between them. Secrets that are about to come out and no one will ever be the same.

This was my Amazon First Reads pick for the month of September. It did start out slow and I almost decided to bag it completely. There was a lot of confusion as I tried to sort out who everyone was. The story is told from multiple view points so you really need to be aware who is who. As it went on though, I finally started to get into it. The story is fairly well written and the plot is interesting. However, I’m not sure if it’s just because it’s not my preferred genre or if these people were just truly terrible, but I found the characters to be immensely unlikable. I can honestly say I detested each and every one of them. Even those who I think were supposed to come off as victims were hard to like. I couldn’t find a redeeming character in the entire story. It still held my interest and it was a quick and easy read but a bit too soap opera for my tastes.
